Okami Ryoko

Posted on 08 November 2010 by Mark

I usually don’t pick up figurines like these but this one has a nice face and appears to have a nice sculpt as well. Let alone the fact that the legs look nice also.

Okami Ryoko

This is Okami Ryoko from Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi. Basically she’s the leader of the group called the Otogi Bank. Haven’t really seen the actual show but this figurine has gotten me interested in the series (EDIT: I picked up the 12-ep series from Coffeebugg).

Papercraft Burns Time

Posted on 05 November 2010 by Mark

Which was what I needed today. I wanted to make a Stormtrooper army on my desk but I figured I’d save that world-dominating plan for another day and chose to try out different characters. Do note that this type of papercraft is quite simple. Nowhere near rocket science unlike the other mindblowing stuff I’ve seen while I was utilizing Google in search of Gundam papercraft.

Stormtrooper, VF Messiah, Spartan Armor

All this stuff was taken from cubeecraft.com so if you’re interested in recreating the entire cast of Scott Pilgrim in this style, I would suggest you go there now.

The Stormtrooper was done in bond paper while the VF Messiah and Spartan Armor were done using 200gsm cardboard.

My partner was the one who got me started on this since she and her officemates did this to burn time at their office and I’ve seen some of their work and I’m nowhere near as good as my girlfriend or her colleagues. She even made me a detailed Wall-E papercraft and that thing’s smaller than these.

These papercraft are around the same size as a Nendoroid but with much larger heads.

Quite a lot of fun building them especially when you get into the groove of cutting up cubeecraft designs. They’re all the same 90% of the time. The only differences are when they have accessories and other add-ons like the VF Messiah (antenna, wings, etc.).

Nendoroid Kirino Kousaka

Posted on 04 November 2010 by Mark

This is one of Goodsmile Company’s more recent master models of their upcoming Nendoroid releases: Kirino Kousaka from Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai. I honestly haven’t seen the show or even read the manga but the expression on her face is just priceless. So priceless that I’m considering picking her up from a shelf (cutting back on pre-orders).

Oboro Muramasa Momohime

Posted on 02 November 2010 by Mark

Oboro Muramasa Momohime

I finally got her. I’ve been wanting to own this figurine ever since I saw her master mold in the hobby sites and now she’s finally standing on my office desk and I absolutely love it!

This is 1/8 Scale Oboro Mumaramasa Momohime by Alter and she is just absolutely gorgeous. There is but one other figurine that I would want to own aside from this and it is the two versions of Yabyu Jubei also from Alter.

I’ll let my shots speak of how beautiful this figurine is. Continue Reading

figma BRS + Random Shots

Posted on 27 October 2010 by Mark

The office is currently abuzz with preparations for Halloween. On Friday, kids in costumes will be walking around to get free candy. My staff are busy preparing decorations for the Plants vs Zombies theme that our area will be decorated with. This is also usually the time I break out the halloween-related toys that I have stashed in my office.

Kyoukas + Domo-kun

BRS + Gloomy

Queen Melissa + Sebastian

Unlike last year where I had all my Nendoroids out on display, this year, I’ve decided to just have these few toys out. I also have all my SIC action figures and a couple of figmas out as well as Psycho Gundam Mk. I but that’s pretty much it for this year. It would have been a pain bringing out ALL the toys from their ziploc bags and then putting them back in after Halloween. Continue Reading

Black Rock Shooter Merch

Posted on 26 October 2010 by Mark

Black Rock Shooter Merch

Last night, a good friend of mine dropped by Coffeebugg’s house for some paella and in turn, was able to pick up my BRS stuff from his house and then drop them off at my office which relatively close by. This was the third character that I purchased for both the Nendoroid and figma versions. The first one was obviously Miku Hatsune. The second one was Fireball Drossel. Black Rock Shooter is my third. Pink Bracelet

Posted on 25 October 2010 by Mark

Pink Bracelet

October’s supposed to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I also know that pink is the color for this campaign. My ninang (godmother) who got me this bracelet is a cancer survivor so all the more than I am wearing this in support of this campaign.

Aside from the fact that I like wearing pink.

As for the bracelet itself, yeap, it’s a PowerBalance bracelet. It’s that popular bracelet you see so many knockoffs of these days. Basically, their claim is that it improves your athletic performance since the mylar hologram embedded in their bracelets interact with your natural body energy flow to improve your balance. They even have tests to prove it.

Of course, with Google, you can easily find hundreds if not thousands of websites that refute PowerBalance’s claims, saying that they’re stealing money from people by selling them a glorified Livestrong bracelet.

So what’s my take on this technology?

It works for me. I won’t tell other people to buy it for themselves but I was curious enough to ask my ninang to get me one directly from the website (the ones being sold locally cost Php2,200-Php2,500 a piece and the availability of sizes and colors are limited). After wearing it, I can definitely say that it has helped improve my overall balance. Now whether it is a placebo or not is beyond me, quite frankly.

One thing’s for sure: it does not work with everyone. Other people, no matter how many bracelets they wear, they’re still as clumsy as before they started wearing the bracelet. There are others who don’t feel anything at all and that the improved balance they felt after wearing the bracelet is no different from anticipating one’s movements and the amount of force or pressure they will be met with.

So if you got one for free or for cheap and it works for you, well and good. If you bought one that’s expensive and it works for you, then you must have really wanted it to dole out that much cash for a silicone bracelet with a hologram. For those who spent money on it but did not feel its effects, just enjoy the fashion accessory that it has become to a lot of people these days.

What I do intend to gripe about on this post though is PowerBalance’s claim that their silicone bracelets are waterproof.

THEY ARE NOT WATERPROOF. Continue Reading

MG Gundam Wing Model Kits at HobbyShow 2010

Posted on 15 October 2010 by Mark

MG Gundam Wing Model Kits

Dropped by Amiami.com today to check if they have anything new and their blog had a bunch of pics taken from HobbyShow 2010. What got my attention was this display of Early Wing model kits. All of the ones on the upper shelf appear to be master grade model kits. Wing Gundam was already released as a Ver. Ka and they also released the model kit again as a regular MG release. Then recently, Bandai released the Gundam Deathscythe Early Wing version. Continue Reading

Happy BlackBerry User

Posted on 14 October 2010 by Mark

Ok, before that, this is my first post using the new WordPress 3.0.1. I know I was a bit late in upgrading but I must say, it’s definitely snappier than the previous version on the backend.

Domo-kun with BlackBerry 8520

Anyways, so I’ve owned this BlackBerry for a couple of months now and I can definitely say I’m a happy user. I can see the iPhone and Android users rolling their eyes saying in the back of their minds: “That’s because you haven’t tried using an iPhone/Android”.

But seriously, I’m quite happy right now with my BlackBerry and the things I am able to do with it.

I chose to make the switch when I was finally getting tired of my old Sony Ericsson W960 and wanted to change brands and phone types. Prior to the switch, I have not owned a QWERTY smartphone so this is a bit of a change for me as well. I have always been interested in what the hype was with BlackBerry smartphones and why they were popular amongst a good number of people so when I found out that one of our telecomm companies here provided prepaid service for BIS, I figured it was the right time to get one.

My first and current BlackBerry isn’t an expensive one. It’s a BlackBerry Curve 8520. Will it be my last BlackBerry device? Probably not. Will I upgrade to a Bold in the future? Highly likely. Will I try out a touchscreen BlackBerry? No. Unless it’s the BlackBerry PlayBook. Continue Reading
