Early Birthday Gift

Posted on 15 March 2011 by Mark

Chil got me this as an early birthday gift especially since my BB Curve 8520′s keypad was already as useful as a pile of poop.

I am so loved.

I originally planned to get a Bold 9780 but after hearing so many horror stories about the keypad stuttering/double-tapping, I chose to stick to the older Bold which had much less hardware issues, if there are even any. I gave up 512MB RAM, 5MP camera and OS6 but I think it’s better than the frustration over the keypad.

I tried installing OS6 on the 9700 but the memory leak was just so bad that I chose to revert back to OS5.

Sentai Backtracking

Posted on 02 February 2011 by Mark

Tensou Sentai Goseiger is nearing its end and there is already a lot of discussion regarding the next Super Sentai series which I think is going to be epic simply because it involves practically every single Super Sentai series ever since the franchise’s conception.

Engine Sentai Go-Onger

But at the same time, I’ve also started doing some backtracking on the Sentai shows that I’ve missed. Prior to regularly following Super Sentai shows, I was more of a Kamen Rider fan. But Samurai Sentai Shinkenger brought back my interest in the Super Sentai series (although Goseiger was a bit of a drag for me, to be quite frank, except for the fact that Moune was quite kawaii).

I watched the Shinkenger vs Go-Onger movie and was interested in the series that came out prior to Samurai Sentai Shinkenger (and the fact that Yumi Sugimoto is gorgeous). So…I’ve started watching Go-Onger while I wait for the entire Goseiger series to be finished and just watch the remaining episodes in one go.

And to be quite honest, I’m finding Go-Onger quite hilarious and even more fun to watch than Goseiger. I catch myself laughing at their antics every so often whereas Goseiger annoyed me more than I actually enjoyed it.

Really. Moune, for me, was its only saving grace.

As for Engine Sentai Go-Onger, my favorite characters are actually Sousuke and Gunpei. When they clash, it just cracks me up.

I am currently in episode 11 of the series and definitely looking forward to when Yumi Sugimoto finally makes her debut in the show.

How about you? What was your all-time favorite Super Sentai show?

Christmas Wishlist

Posted on 15 November 2010 by Mark

WishlistI think I skipped last year for making up a Christmas wishlist so I figured it’s a good time to write another one up this year. I actually just have a devices this year that I would actually want to have. I also tried to limit the price range because the other stuff that I would like to get are ones that I can delay or postpone to later months. These ones, however, would be nice to get this Christmas season.

First up on the list is the MadCatz R.A.T.9. It’s an adjustable mouse with a really wicked cool look. I would love to have either this or the Razer Orochi as my wireless optical mouse.

Next up is the Hisense Stereo Headset HB440H. I love my current earbuds but the end keeps snagging in my pocket since the headphone jack on my BlackBerry is on the side (all of a sudden, iPod’s headphone jack positioning makes sense). So to avoid the snagging altogether, this would be a nice acquisition. If not this, then Hisense HB400C is a close second. This is also a bluetooth communication device which basically moves your earphone jack away from your device and allows you to take calls with it. But since the device is a small bit that you can hang around your neck with the earphone jack there, you can change headsets and use any compatible headset brand you like.

I’ve mentioned before that I’d like to upgrade from a Curve to a Bold. And the latest Bold release is what I would want to upgrade to. The Bold 9780 looks almost exactly like the 9700 except for that darker chrome edge. It has twice the RAM as the 9700 and comes with OS6 out of the box. The Curve is nice but with the frequency that I use it, the keyboard’s about to give out on me. I am hoping that since the Bold is of a higher-end device, it would have a better, sturdier keypad.

Aviator glasses: something I have always wanted to own. I saw a black framed one with gold mirror lenses.

The Wii is more of a party piece than anything else. If not this, then a new laptop would be just as good for me.

What’s on YOUR Christmas wishlist?

Disappointed with Sun Cellular Customer Service

Posted on 08 November 2010 by Mark

This started less than a month back, just a couple of weeks into when I started using Sun Cellular’s BlackBerry Internet Service. I had switched to Sun’s BIS for two things: I’m a postpaid plan owner so having the BIS as part of my bill makes paying convenient instead of doing it the prepaid way with Globe, and second, Sun’s BIS was cheaper (Php999 per month for unlimited BIS, tax inclusive).

So after much deliberation, I finally switched to Sun’s BIS.

Boy was I wrong.

Papercraft Burns Time

Posted on 05 November 2010 by Mark

Which was what I needed today. I wanted to make a Stormtrooper army on my desk but I figured I’d save that world-dominating plan for another day and chose to try out different characters. Do note that this type of papercraft is quite simple. Nowhere near rocket science unlike the other mindblowing stuff I’ve seen while I was utilizing Google in search of Gundam papercraft.

Stormtrooper, VF Messiah, Spartan Armor

All this stuff was taken from cubeecraft.com so if you’re interested in recreating the entire cast of Scott Pilgrim in this style, I would suggest you go there now.

The Stormtrooper was done in bond paper while the VF Messiah and Spartan Armor were done using 200gsm cardboard.

My partner was the one who got me started on this since she and her officemates did this to burn time at their office and I’ve seen some of their work and I’m nowhere near as good as my girlfriend or her colleagues. She even made me a detailed Wall-E papercraft and that thing’s smaller than these.

These papercraft are around the same size as a Nendoroid but with much larger heads.

Quite a lot of fun building them especially when you get into the groove of cutting up cubeecraft designs. They’re all the same 90% of the time. The only differences are when they have accessories and other add-ons like the VF Messiah (antenna, wings, etc.).

Posting from my BlackBerry

Posted on 22 September 2010 by Mark

First time I’m trying out the WordPress BlackBerry app for more than just approving and replying to comments on this blog so here I am writing a blog post while on a bus to work. (And then a bloke with a smelly shirt sits down beside me. Splendid.)

Still have a few toys I am expecting to arrive before this calendar year ends but I have definitely cut back on buying newer ones. Priority has started moving away from buying the latest Nendoroid releases to buffing up my savings as well as setting aside money for a new laptop. (Mr. Smelly-Shirt moved to a different seat. Thank goodness.)

It’s an interesting shift having cut back on toy expenses because before, I would quickly and readily put up a preorder request but now, I am already content with just being aware of what’s going on in the Japanese toy scene. It doesn’t mean that I’ll be stopping from buying toys or even blogging about them. Absolutely not. But I can definitely say the direction of my interests have taken a turn again. I will still pick up a toy or two down the line, especially when I encounter something that I simply could not pass up on (ex. Momohime figurine, and GFFN FA Unicorn Gundam).

Makes me wonder now if there are any blog visitors who have started feeling that slowdown in purchases especially if the uptake and peak of your purchasing was triggered by all the hype on toys you don’t necessarily want or are interested in.

Dark Kiva Shots + Ramblings

Posted on 05 July 2010 by Mark

Finally managed to bring my DSLR to the office and found time to take a couple of shots of SIC Dark Kiva. Not a lot of poses since I can hardly find any window to set up the lights and such so the poses were quite limited since my time was also limited.

SIC Dark Kiva

This is Dark Kiva holding that grand sword from the series which Kiva Emperor Form could hardly wield without the help of Tatsulot to contain the sword’s power. Dark Kiva, however, had no trouble swinging this thing around. The material for the sword is pretty neat. The edges and the filigree are painted in silver and the stabbing top of the sword is in gold while the material underneath is in clear plastic giving off that crystal effect. It’s a magnificent sword. I thought Hyper Kabuto’s sword was already awesome but this one takes the cake for me. Continue Reading

Toothless

Posted on 11 April 2010 by Mark

I finally found time to watch How To Train Your Dragon by Dreamworks yesterday. It was definitely a worthwhile watch. Aside from the fact that it was pretty cool to hear Gerard Butler’s voice in Hiccup’s Dad, the very storyline of the series itself was pretty good. But above all the action, awesome animation and engaging musical score, I think the part that REALLY won me over was the part from the climax to the end of the movie itself.

It was definitely not the kind of cliche you would expect from animated films. I mean, UP was nice but that first part of the story broke my heart before the rest of the story became interesting.

Toothless

And Toothless! My goodness, that dragon is so cute! And the fact that he could retract his teeth pushed up the cute factor. I remember laughing so hard seeing him try to smile while he had not teeth whatsoever. That forced smile combined with just gums and no teeth showing up was comedy gold. Continue Reading

Visita Iglesia

Posted on 02 April 2010 by Mark

Visita Iglesia

Just one small step back from the usual hobby/toy post. Today is Maundy Thursday here and one of the activities we usually do on this particular day is Visita Iglesia. Basically, it is visiting seven different Altars of Repose from seven different Churches. These are just a few of the photos that I took today. (Shots taken using Lumix LX3 in High Dynamic Mode) Continue Reading
