When I saw this at Amiami.com, I was (and still am) quite tempted to buy/preorder this model kit. It is from the Frame Arms line of Kotobukiya model kits.
Three things made me want this kit. One was that I have a thing for boxy, muscular type mechs. Thus my love for Katoki’s designs and my preference for Northern units in Heavy Gear. Two was that it’s white!

That looks really nice. Just the right amount of bulk without making it look too cheesy. Neither does it show too much armaments with its current bulk which makes it unreal for this to handle that amount of firepower. The tank treads at the bank allow support for the recoil of the cannon mounted on its shoulders. Realistic, right? Continue Reading

So here’s a shot of the GFFN Full Armor Gundam with everything that comes inside the box! This is going to be such a gorgeous action figure with so much stuff coming along with it. Of course, I’ve already shown how much of a weapon powerhouse this mobile suit is. But at the same time, it is so Universal Century instead of the alternate timelines where the cram powerful beam weapons into a single mobile suit, this one adds firepower the way one can or should: stock up on arms!
I see three beam gatling guns, two bazookas, two shields, the rocket packs, thrusters and what appears to be beam handguns. No beam rifle? Continue Reading

So the Gundam Cafe officially opens and I can only look on in envy as people pour into the place to enjoy some dining pleasure inside a place that’s COMPLETELY about Gundam. >_< Here’s a look at some of the food they serve on their menu:

- Jaburo Coffee
- Gunpla-yaki
- Federation’s White Guy
- The Red Comet
- Zaku Pickles
- Haro Pizza
- The Red Comet (cocktail)
- Giant Blue Star
- Mono-eye
- Sarah’s Lips
The Red Comet pasta and the Mono-eye cocktail drink please.
It would be awesome to be served by cute ladies in Feddie uniforms. More images at Moeyo, Gundam.info and GA Graphic.
The bathrooms even have mobile suits peeking through the mirrors. And damn, look at all those merchandise they’re selling inside! I want to collect those cup coasters. T_T

Before I end this work week, I am posting two updates from two modders that I regularly keep track of. Keita just recently posted his finished work on a mod for the SD Unicorn Gundam, kenosyokutaku posted two SIC mods in his site.
First, I’ll talk about Keita’s SD Unicorn mod. Now, I love all of Keita’s mods but this one, I’m a bit on the fence with regards to whether I will like it or hate it…well, not really hate it. Super Deformed has always been characterized by the unreasonably large heads and small bodies. Now, Keita likes modding SDs to incorporate joints and other pieces taken from 1/144 scale HG model kits.
This one however is beginning to loose the super deformed proportions that I have always been used to in SD versions of robots.

When you look at this mod, although yes, the head is still relatively bigger than the rest of the body, scale of the head as against the scale of the body is beginning to disappear and it is actually appearing to be borderline evenly scaled between head and body. I would say it looks like a kiddie version of the Unicorn Gundam rather than a Super Deformed version.
Have a look at the rest of the gallery at Keita’s site. Continue Reading

So finally, N.P.GPM has released his version of the Master Grade kit V Gundam ver. Ka by Bandai! And by George, it is one gorgeous piece of work. I told my friend Coffeebugg, who is an avid V Gundam fan, that this particular version looks like the illustration jumped out of the boxart and turned 3D.
So without further ado, here’s his take on the MG V-Gundam ver. Ka

Checked out some of my favorite modders and saw some recent updates. Two have released new mods, complete with photos, while one has a teaser on a Master Grade that a lot of fans have been asking Bandai to manufacture for decades.

This is Keita’s latest masterpiece, a modded version of the Master Grade GN-X from Gundam 00. In his site, he details the changes he made on the original model kit. The difference between this and the original release is just staggering. He never fails to amaze me with the amount of detail he is able to apply on these model kits to further enhance them. I just wish he had included shots of the GN-X with the GN Drive lit up.

I had written about Iron Man 2 posters in a previous post. It was the first poster to showcase War Machine. Now that the second trailer has been released with more mechanical eye-candy, and more action shots of War Machine, there appears to be new posters as well. We’ve seen Whiplash’s solo poster. This time around, there are solo posters for both Iron Man and War Machine.
But prior to all of this, there have already been some releases of the Iron Man Mk. 4 armor figurines and I believe, some action figures/toys/merchandise. When I first posted that poster including War Machine, I had noticed some changes on the chest plating for Iron Man’s suit. And THEN I saw the trailer and noticed that the light on his chest where the reactor is housed is no longer circular but triangular. THEN I saw the new solo poster for Iron Man with the triangular light on the chest and a slightly different color scheme and I thought, perhaps they had changed the armor design on the last minute.
Actually, aside from the chest light and the slight change in color scheme, everything is EXACTLY THE SAME. Here, have a look:

So here’s the poster I was talking about earlier. The chest design is definitely different compared to the Iron Man Mk. 3 armor used in the first movie. The first full movie trailer came out and the suit still used the circular chest light. Continue Reading

Saw a toy online today that made me feel nostalgic about the shows that I used to enjoy back when I was a kid. It’s a Metal Hero action figure by Action Works. This Metal Hero is the first of a trilogy of Space Sheriff shows. His name is Space Sheriff Gavan. Continue Reading

While I’m still working on a preorder update format for this blog, I’ll start with a Daily Toy Finds entry instead. This is to showcase some of the toys that I find noteworthy for every day. So some of these you might not find interesting at all but these would be items I would acquire if money was not an issue.
First up…

Mikatan’s blog was updated recently with this bit of good news for Touhou fans out there. It’s a Touhou Project puchi Nendoroid set. There aren’t much details shown yet aside from a single base and that huge crate. Not as familiar with Touhou as some major fans that I know. But having seen the trend of Touhou Nendoroid releases, this is most likely to be another exclusive, limited-edition release, just like every other Touhou-releated release from Goodsmile and Max Factory. When I first encountered these kits, I remembered a particular RPG that I enjoyed reading about back in high school: Heavy Gear. The construction, weaponry and means of movement and transport look quite similar.
While I was browsing through Ngee Khiong for my daily dose of toy release updates, I ran into the cover art of one of the Border Break units. Up until now, all I have seen were the master designs, and none of the boxart. My friend Emrys has been drooling over these kits for quite some time now and upon last checking at Amiami.com, there are currently four different units up for preorder, one of which is featured in the boxart shown above.
The unit above is called the Heavy Guard Type II. Compared the other units like the Shrike and the Cougar, the Heavy Guard definitely has a bulkier build reminiscent of the Kodiaks in Heavy Gear. This appears to be designed to provide long range heavy artillery while using a bazooka to protect itself at closer range.
Boxart is looking really good although I’ve always liked the boxart of Kotobukiya kits even though I was not always fond of the product inside. Compared to Bandai’s gunpla, Kotobukiya’s SRW line prior to the 1/100 model kits like the Alteisen, did not have very good production, with a lot of flash showing up at the edges and seemingly lower quality plastic that didn’t get cut very well with model kit cutters. These Border Break kits do come with prepainted parts. Some purists may want to have their kits non-prepainted while some who prefer to just build their kits out of the box, would be thankful for the prepainted parts. I remember the 1/144 Alteisen having prepainted parts which was a big help for that size of model kit. The Border Break units are supposedly smaller than the mobile suits we are used to: Gundam-sized ones which average around 18-20 meters. This kit comes in 1/35 scale and although I have yet to see it beside model kits whose sizes I’m more familiar with, I am assuming that the full scale Border Break units are smaller in size compared to the mobile suits we’ve all been used to thus the larger scale in the box. If anything, it would probably stand as tall as a normal Master Grade(?). If anyone has built one of these kits, kindly inform me if they are any bigger than Master Grades. Or smaller, whichever the case.
The Cougar Type I Heavy Armament A Class is actually up for preorder locally at Wasabi Toys. Contact them directly for any price inquiries.
