Now that I have the GFFN FA Unicorn Gundam, I am once again considering one GFFN that I wanted to get when it was announced but had to pass up on it since that time, my funding was being moved towards acquiring Nendoroids.
The GFFN I am talking about is the ReZEL which is based off the Zeta and Delta Gundam technology. There were two types of ReZELs seen in the Gundam Unicorn OVAs: the regular type and the Commander Type which basically carries a hyper mega launcher while the regular type just carries the standard issue beam rifle. There is a difference in the color of the visors but for the GFFN release, the sensors are all colored red regardless of whether the beam rifle or the hyper mega launcher is armed. The differences between the regular type and the Commander Type are the sensor colors and the armaments.

Hopefully, I’d still be able to find this one on local shelves. It would be neat to have this standing beside my GFFN FA Unicorn Gundam. Continue Reading

I’m not sure if it is already completely finished but one thing’s for sure: Keita does it again! This is an awesome replica of the 1/1 scale Gundam that you can find in Japan.
Not sure if Keita’s going to auction this one off but it would definitely be nice to own it if I could afford it.

Mouse over the image and post comments. Tell me what you think of this particular mod. And if you do know of any other modeller who you think did a better job than Keita, please feel free to post the link here so that I can have a look and feature that individual’s work as well!

Dropped by Amiami.com today to check if they have anything new and their blog had a bunch of pics taken from HobbyShow 2010. What got my attention was this display of Early Wing model kits. All of the ones on the upper shelf appear to be master grade model kits. Wing Gundam was already released as a Ver. Ka and they also released the model kit again as a regular MG release. Then recently, Bandai released the Gundam Deathscythe Early Wing version. Continue Reading

It appears that Bandai is cashing in on the obvious popularity of the RX-78-2 Gundam ver. Ka and Unicorn Gundam Metal Composite releases. So much so that they’re actually releasing two more new repaints this October and November.
For October, there will be a Tamashii Nation limited release of the Metal Composite RX-78-2 Gundam ver. Ka (Rollout Color ver.). Basically, it’s the Gundam ver. Ka in white paint except for the mechanical parts which remain in gray. There are red highlights too, particularly the parts that are in red in the regular painted version as well as some other parts like the vents, etc.
For November, Bandai is releasing the Metallic Coating version of the Metal Composite Unicorn Gundam. I wouldn’t really call it metallic. I’ve seen some of the protos and they look more like a pearl finish to me. But whatever. I honestly don’t see the reason in releasing something that’s basically just “shinier” than the previous release. But if Bandai thinks that there’s a market for this, then go ahead. Whatever floats their boat, I guess. I would have been more amazed if after they released the GFFN FA Unicorn Gundam, they release a GFFN Banshee or a Metal Composite Banshee/FA Unicorn Gundam. But a pearl finish re-release of what already appeared to be a fine action figure? Nah.
Here’s a promo shot of the Metallic Coating ver. of the Metal Composite Unicorn Gundam.

With me looking forward to the MG ReZel release (which looks quite awesome in its colored proto shots), I was actually surprised that Bandai announced this MG release, just a couple of months after the movie’s release. Although not really an actual curveball, and seeing the timing of its release and the movie’s release, this was something rather expected after a bit of thinking. Makes me wonder though what kind of unique gimik this kit will have compared to the previous Gundam 00 Master Grade releases.
Here are some scans picked up from Ngee Khiong’s blog.

…this is what greets me:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Ok. So why am I both frustrated and excited?
- This is the next Perfect Grade coming out of Bandai’s factories.
- This particular version will be based on Hajime Katoki’s design.
- The SEED-based inner frame that’s been seen in PG Strike and PG Astray will most likely be used again here.
- I’m trying to save up for a laptop and the last thing I need is another temptation.
So yeah, you can understand my dilemma here, right? No? Well, to make things more interesting, with all the tech that’s been present in the most recent PG release (Gundam 00 Raiser), most likely, this one will have more than just light-up eyes as a feature. (Remember the Lightning Edition 1/60 HG Strike Freedom?)
Anyways, this bit of news from Ngee Khiong’s blog.
Now, where are those Nendoroids that are supposed to be here already? :3

I am aware that there are a good number of people who have followed Gundam Unicorn are quite fond of the ReZel design. It looks like Bandai is now finally releasing the Master Grade version of this mech.
Prior to this, the iterations of merchandise for ReZel were the GFFN version, and the HGUC model kit.
Note that the press release doesn’t appear to indicate that this is a ver. Ka box. A lot of people tend to love adding ver. Ka to a kit just because it was designed by Hajime Katoki. (points at the Gundam Deathscythe ver. EW (Early Wing))

When I saw this at Amiami.com, I was (and still am) quite tempted to buy/preorder this model kit. It is from the Frame Arms line of Kotobukiya model kits.
Three things made me want this kit. One was that I have a thing for boxy, muscular type mechs. Thus my love for Katoki’s designs and my preference for Northern units in Heavy Gear. Two was that it’s white!

That looks really nice. Just the right amount of bulk without making it look too cheesy. Neither does it show too much armaments with its current bulk which makes it unreal for this to handle that amount of firepower. The tank treads at the bank allow support for the recoil of the cannon mounted on its shoulders. Realistic, right? Continue Reading

Before I end this work week, I am posting two updates from two modders that I regularly keep track of. Keita just recently posted his finished work on a mod for the SD Unicorn Gundam, kenosyokutaku posted two SIC mods in his site.
First, I’ll talk about Keita’s SD Unicorn mod. Now, I love all of Keita’s mods but this one, I’m a bit on the fence with regards to whether I will like it or hate it…well, not really hate it. Super Deformed has always been characterized by the unreasonably large heads and small bodies. Now, Keita likes modding SDs to incorporate joints and other pieces taken from 1/144 scale HG model kits.
This one however is beginning to loose the super deformed proportions that I have always been used to in SD versions of robots.

When you look at this mod, although yes, the head is still relatively bigger than the rest of the body, scale of the head as against the scale of the body is beginning to disappear and it is actually appearing to be borderline evenly scaled between head and body. I would say it looks like a kiddie version of the Unicorn Gundam rather than a Super Deformed version.
Have a look at the rest of the gallery at Keita’s site. Continue Reading

So finally, N.P.GPM has released his version of the Master Grade kit V Gundam ver. Ka by Bandai! And by George, it is one gorgeous piece of work. I told my friend Coffeebugg, who is an avid V Gundam fan, that this particular version looks like the illustration jumped out of the boxart and turned 3D.
So without further ado, here’s his take on the MG V-Gundam ver. Ka
