Exia Overkill

Posted on 06 May 2008 by Mark

I’ve always viewed Gundam Exia as a sleek and quick MS that slices and dices its opponents then retreats real fast, ninja-style. That’s why an FA (Full Armor) Exia just completely escapes my imagination. Apparently, someone did daydream of it and put it down to illustration.

Think Exia would still be able to kick ass with all that bulk? It doesn’t even look like it can turn its head properly with all those doodads and add-ons attached to it.

Note: This illustration was from the Mecha Pics Thread of SRWG.org.

Keita's Gundam Exia SE and Exia Trans-Am Mode

Posted on 28 April 2008 by Mark

Keita does it again! I mentioned in a previous blog entry that Keita was working on his upcoming masterpiece which is the Gundam Exia SE. Well, it’s finished and he added something that we (or at least I) didn’t expect: Trans Am Mode! Continue Reading

None of that here…

Posted on 01 April 2008 by Mark

Practically all the webcomics I visit on a daily basis have put April Fool’s dummy websites. I bet that all across the globe, there are tons more people making pranks on other people in celebration of April Fool’s day. I can take a joke. But most of the April Fool’s pranks I’ve encountered in all my years of social awareness have been cruel or not even close to funny. Take the unlock-Shen-Long-in-SF2 as an example. That was sick news when it came out. Everyone was trying to unlock Shen Long. Apparently, it was a sick joke.

I never liked April Fool’s Day simply because the jokes/pranks gave people false hopes. Jokes were meant to be funny and I know a lot of them were mostly at the expense of others. But not April Fool’s jokes. These kinds of jokes are funny on two points: when the guy puts out the prank and starts reading or hearing the response, and when the fact that none of it is true is discovered. You’re supposed to take joy in seeing people’s hopes go down upon discovery that what they thought was true apparently wasn’t and what joy they were feeling inside  was for nothing. That. Is. Just. Fucking. Sick.

Well none of that here. For April Fool’s day, I’m posting a pic for mecha and gunpla mod fans to look forward to: Keita’s next masterpiece. He calls it Gundam Exia SE:

N.P.GPM: MG Gundam Unicorn

Posted on 27 March 2008 by Mark

Remember when I said I’m going to buy two MG Gundam Unicorns and build one to be set at Normal Mode and the other in Destroy Mode? N.P.GPM beat me to it but boy is his version a lot sexier than I could ever make it. Of course, he had installed the usual metal bells and bolts which I wish they sold here in the Philippines but they don’t. You can see more images of his third-most-recent work in his website.

I haven’t featured much of N.P.GPM’s work recently but other works that are noteworthy are his HGUC Exia and Dynames as well as his MG Sazabi in glossy finish which I believe is how the Sazabi should be done.

Personal Byte: I’ve yet to pick up my second MG Gundam Unicorn from Wasabi Toys but with all the work I have lately, I just spend most of my time at home resting but I’m anxious to finish that project. N.P.GPM’s work has definitely got me going for it again.

1:100 Astraea

Posted on 04 March 2008 by Mark

This is the 1:100 scale Gundam Astraea prototype. For those who don’t know, the Astraea is part of the sidestory manga for Gundam 00, Sunrise’s current ongoing Gundam series. It looks nearly exactly like the Exia, only significantly lacking melee weapons and sports a beam rifle instead.

I am liking the head design for this one. This is still the prototype and I’ve yet to see actual colored/finished pictures of this model kit. It will be in High Grade.

Do note though that Bandai’s 1:100 HG line is slowly getting close to its MG counterpart. The same way the detail in the MG line is getting closer to PG level.

Gundam 00 HG 1/100 Gundam Virtue

Posted on 13 February 2008 by Mark

Gundambase Side 1 has uploaded a whole bunch o pictures for the 1/100 Gundam Virtue and it purges its armor also which is quite neat for a HG model kit. Looks like Bandai’s really stepping it up on their 1/100 high grade line especially for the Gundam 00 model kits. I guess they’re riding on the popularity of the 1/100 high grade model kits from the SEED and SEED Destiny line. Click on the image above to go to Gundambase Side 1 to see the rest of the pictures.

Will I buy this model kit? Not too sure. But it definitely looks gorgeous.

1st Gundam-related post for 2008

Posted on 04 January 2008 by Mark

Got some merchandise pics from links which I found in Gunota Headlines. A couple of them are old stuff from 2007 which I never found time to write about and one is from this year.

Let’s start with the Zeonography (Perfect) Zeong. For those who aren’t familiar with this mobile suit, it’s probably the largest that Char ever piloted and also probably the most annoying to eliminate in a battle. I’ve come to believe that the Zeong was built to annoy people in the battlefield. This thing can fly without legs, can have its legs put on and get blown off during a battle and still be able to fly. It has wire-guided arms with beam cannons at the tips of its fingers. And when you do succeed to blow off its torso, the head can still come at you and massacre your mobile suit with you included. It also has a large sword mounted on its hip that Char can use to lop off your head, or your torso, or you…

Next up is Bandai’s latest MG release: it’s the Black Tristars High Mobility Zaku. White hips, mix of navy blue and purplse color scheme, tons o boosters and a fatter bazooka. I’d buy one, actually. This is one nice addition to my teensie Zaku collection comprised of…one Zaku II ver. 2.0.

Another interesting release is this special edition Gundam Fix Figuration FA Gundam. The original color scheme for the FA Gundam was green with orange highlights. This one comes in blue with orange highlights. Don’t know how limited this release is but it sure would be nice to be standing on my office desk.

Last but definitely not the least is Bandai’s latest action figure line 00 Region starting with the Gundam Exia from the Gundam 00 series. It comes with oodles of melee weapons and the posability definitely looks promising. I wonder if you can use the Astraea conversion parts on this one or if they’ll release this with Astraea conversion armor.

I’m still waiting to get my MG Unicorns and start building them. Can’t waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait~!

MG Strike E + IWSP

Posted on 25 November 2007 by Mark

Awesome stuff from Gundam.Info covering the 15th anniversary of Dengeki starting with the MG Strike E + IWSP which is basically a white Strike E with akimbo beam rifles and retaining its akimbo beam handguns. From the picture shown there, it still uses the old MG Strike frame so nothing really new. It’s basically like if you already own the Strike + IWSP and the Strike Noir. Just saves you the trouble of repainting it to those colors.

This is the Gundam Astraea from one of the sidestories of Gundam 00. In Gundam.info’s coverage, there appears to be a 1/100 Astraea on display. More likely, this is a mod of the 1/100 Exia rather than an actual model kit but it should be interesting to see this come out as a model kit. Gundam 00 would probably be the Gundam series with the most prototypes released as model kits. Because another prototype is on display in 1/144 scale:

This is the Gundam Sadalsuud which is basically considered as a prototype of the Dynames and in the field, its main purpose is recon having more lightweight armor.

Last but not the least, and hoping that this actually gets released as a Perfect Grade model kit: a 1/60 Hazel Gundam.

Ever since I laid eyes on the Hazel Gundam, I’ve been craving for a Master Grade of Perfect Grade version of it. It just looks so awesome!

What are your Gundam Christmas wishes this year?

RX-78NT-X Gundam and Gundam Sadalsuud

Posted on 24 November 2007 by Mark

First time I saw this mobile suit is in G Generation Spirits care of a scan featured in Super Robot War Hotnews. It’s obviously a newtype mobile suit but what’s interesting is that it also has the name MRX-003 in its unit code. The MRX unit code is from Murasame Laboratories which made the powerful and gigantic Psyco Gundam which has a mobile fortress transformation feature. With this labelled as MRX-003, this could possibly mean that it’s one of the predecessors of the Psyco Gundam. And yet it also has the Renpou unit code RX (R for Renpou, X for Experiment). Hmm… Anyways, as far as I know, this mobile suit is an exclusive for the game.

Being an NT-use unit, it carries two bits on its shoulders that it uses to remotely attack enemies. The bits remind me of the sword used by the Astray Blue Frame.

Awesome design.

Next up is a mobile suit from Gundam 00P, one of a couple of sidestories that are spawning at the wake of Gundam 00. Here’s the explanation from Gunota Headlines:

GNY-002 Gundam Sadalsuud – Has the image of the tarot card “The Star” (a female goddess taking some water). Scouting & command specialized prototype equipped with sensors all over its entire body. As it is a sensor-using test unit, it has a meager armament and an equal lack of armor. For the time being, it is the prototype of the Dynames.

I’m really liking the designs of the mobile suits for Gundam 00. The only thing I’m not happy about are their feet. I guess my real preference for Gundam feet is the design used on the Strike Gundam featured in Gundam EVOLVE.
