Considering GFFN ReZEL

Posted on 21 January 2011 by Mark

Now that I have the GFFN FA Unicorn Gundam, I am once again considering one GFFN that I wanted to get when it was announced but had to pass up on it since that time, my funding was being moved towards acquiring Nendoroids.

The GFFN I am talking about is the ReZEL which is based off the Zeta and Delta Gundam technology. There were two types of ReZELs seen in the Gundam Unicorn OVAs: the regular type and the Commander Type which basically carries a hyper mega launcher while the regular type just carries the standard issue beam rifle. There is a difference in the color of the visors but for the GFFN release, the sensors are all colored red regardless of whether the beam rifle or the hyper mega launcher is armed. The differences between the regular type and the Commander Type are the sensor colors and the armaments.

Hopefully, I’d still be able to find this one on local shelves. It would be neat to have this standing beside my GFFN FA Unicorn Gundam. Continue Reading

GFFN FA Unicorn Gundam Finally Arrives

Posted on 18 January 2011 by Mark

After months of waiting, I finally have my GFFN FA Unicorn Gundam on my office desk and boy does it look badass. Definitely worth the moolah that I paid to acquire it. For Gundam fans in general and Gundam Unicorn fans, this is definitely a must-have.

GFFN FA Unicorn Gundam

For those wondering why the internals are green, basically, in the manga, scientists working on the NT-D appear to have discovered a better way of using the system while at the same time reducing the stress on the pilot when the unit goes into Destroy Mode. This way, Unicorn can stay in Destroy mode longer compared to the previous red glow version which could only stay in that form for five minutes or else the pilot will go insane due to the mental stress. This green glow version also allows the unit to equip more armaments compared to the red glow version which only went as far as having twin gatling guns. Continue Reading

Okami Ryoko

Posted on 08 November 2010 by Mark

I usually don’t pick up figurines like these but this one has a nice face and appears to have a nice sculpt as well. Let alone the fact that the legs look nice also.

Okami Ryoko

This is Okami Ryoko from Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi. Basically she’s the leader of the group called the Otogi Bank. Haven’t really seen the actual show but this figurine has gotten me interested in the series (EDIT: I picked up the 12-ep series from Coffeebugg).

GFFN FA Unicorn Gundam

GFFN Unicorn Gundam

So here’s a shot of the GFFN Full Armor Gundam with everything that comes inside the box! This is going to be such a gorgeous action figure with so much stuff coming along with it. Of course, I’ve already shown how much of a weapon powerhouse this mobile suit is. But at the same time, it is so Universal Century instead of the alternate timelines where the cram powerful beam weapons into a single mobile suit, this one adds firepower the way one can or should: stock up on arms!

I see three beam gatling guns, two bazookas, two shields, the rocket packs, thrusters and what appears to be beam handguns. No beam rifle? Continue Reading

Unicorn Titanium Finish

Posted on 17 March 2009 by Mark

Titanium Finish

It’s definitely been quite some time since I last posted something about Gundams and its merchandise. And since I’m starting to free up some time in the coming weekends to resume working on my Gundam Unicorn model kits, I’m posting this one as some sort of motivation.

This is the upcoming MG Gundam Unicorn Titanium Finish version. It was just called a special coating version back then but now, it appears that they’ve labelled it as such. It just looks like a pearl finish in my opinion. The blue parts are a bit brighter than the regular version and there’s really nothing else that’s new about it. Personally, I prefer the regular version over this one. When you finally build, it’s definitely not going to be as clean as the merchandise pics since you’ll be snipping them off the runners. Nevertheless, it’s something Bandai thinks will rake in more money for them by selling it off.

They should have just invested the money on making more new MGs and less reincarnations and coating versions.

Gundam 30th Anniversary Series

Posted on 24 February 2009 by Mark

…appears to be within the Universal Century timeline which is, in my most honest opinion, absolutely awesome! Fine, most people were hoping that Unicorn would be the 30th anniversary series that Bandai/Sunrise will release but heck, I’m not complaining about this one. It’s UC baby! And what makes it even better is the fact that the mecha design will be done by none other than Katoki Hajime himself! How awesome can that be?!

30th Anniversary Gundam

30th Anniversary Gundam

This image was nabbed from gits_sac‘s post in DC.com.

Now the mobile suit featured above is none other than the RX-78-7. Yes, 7. It’s not some redesign of the old RX-78-2 to go in line with remake of Mazinger Z. This is a different mobile suit.

As the focus of the One Year War shifts into space, the Earth Federation begins designing a new Gundam for space combat, and the end result is the RX-78-7 7th Gundam. The 7th Gundam is designed to equip Full Armor parts, and as a result the body is covered with mounting latches. The powerplant is more powerful than that of the RX-78-2 Gundam, however, there are sub generators installed in the Full Armor parts to not allow a drop in useable time. The body is in the class of the RX-78NT-1 Gundam “Alex” and is similarly equipped with magnetic coating and a panoramic monitor/linear seat cockpit. Unfortunately, the One Year War ends with only the basic frame of the 7th Gundam completed.  - MAHQ

Above is the description of the 78-7 and the original designer was Kunio Okawara.

This series opens up a lot of possible series directions that Bandai can release afterwards for the UC line. It could link up with Advance of Zeta since this series is right smack in the middle and they can follow through with another storyline that falls right smack in the middle of two major stories. Since Katoki’s in the project, this could also connect (somehow) with Sentinel Gundam.

Of course, Bandai could also go with the “still milking the UC timeline” and release Unicorn. But then to be honest, as much as I would love to see a Unicorn anime NOW, I would prefer that the series be completed in the manga first before it gets animated. Somehow, I feel that it’s better that way. Fine, the suspense of waiting for the next episode is gone, but they can also play with sidestories along the way if they wanted to since the main storyline was well-established already. Or just make an OVA out of it.

Overall, I’m really happy with this move by Bandai. I’m am soooo looking forward to this UC series with Katoki doing the mecha designs. Of course, I do pray that we get none of that SEED Destiny Shinn-type pilot stereotype and none of that own-you-all type of mobile suit power.

Unicorn: Update 3

Posted on 25 May 2008 by Mark

Also known as “Hardly Got Any Work Done”. I was only able to partially finish the waist part of the unit, specifically only up to the front skirts. I tried painting over the dark/navy blue parts of the kit. One of the drawbacks of spraycans also reared its ugly head during that time. Since they’re spraycans, you really don’t have much control on how thick the can will lay on the paint and spraying too far from the pieces wastes a lot of paint since you also don’t get to control the cover radius of the spray. So some parts of the pieces had some paint beading up or accumulating when I had it dry out. So in the end, I had to sand down these areas which was fine by me since I’ll be sanding off the nubs anyways. At least I could get all the sanding done in one go. I’ll be redoing the paint again hopefully within this week. Hopefully.

Here are some shots. Pardon the inconsistencies in leveling. I usually don’t need to do much level editing in Photoshop but since it was getting dim outside during this time, I couldn’t tell the differences.

I wasn’t able to shoot pictures of the finished arms and shoulders so here they are now.

I’m quite happy with how the hands turned out. They’re a lot, lot neater than the ones I’ve made in the past, particularly the Gundam ver. OYW hands.

Sanded down blue parts.

MG Unicorn Beam Gatling

Posted on 27 April 2008 by Mark

I really wish they sold that novel of Gundam Unicorn here that comes with this beam gatling gun add on for the MG Unicorn Gundam model kit. This piece of add on goodness comes with the UC Gundam Unicorn Novel vol. 4 release. You can see more pictures at SRWHotnews.

As for a progress update on the two MG Unicorns, still haven’t started cleaning the runners. Tomorrow, I’ll make sure to wake up a bit earlier than the usual and start soaking these babies in soapy water to get rid of any cast/mould residue.

On another note, my blog still doesn’t have the Related Posts feature. :(

Two Unicorns!

Posted on 26 April 2008 by Mark

This is a Gundam blog so when I talk about unicorns, it’s none of that 6-12 year-old shite with glitters and flowing hair. I’m talking about these babies right here!

Them’s what I got for my 25th birthday and it’s the best birthday so farrrrr~! I’m still thinking about whether there’s really a need to paint these since a good amount of sandpapering and some matte finish is already enough to make this model kit look good. But then I might reconsider not painting it since I want it to look as close to the painted version as possible. So that means I’ll need some German Gray, a dark shade of purple for the backpack and a fresh can of camel yellow and dark mica blue.

I’ll post pictures of the two as soon as I can. Perhaps I’ll find time to shoot some under construction shots.

Glee~!
