The Future of Mobile PC Gaming?

I only caught wind of this device because I have started frequenting the Razer website ever since I acquired my Orochi mouse. Although I’ve visited the site several times prior to getting the mouse, I never really took notice of this particular gadget on the website although it does say that this was part of the CES 2011 so I am assuming that it was a recent addition to the website.

The device I am talking about is the Razer Switchblade. It is basically a portable device allowing you to play your favorite PC games on the go. What makes things interesting and amazing about this device is the keyboard. The keyboard, Razer says, adapts to any game you run on the Switchblade, whether it be a MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online), RTS (Real-Time Strategy), FPS (First Person Shooter) or Casual game.

Watching the demonstration video of this concept gaming device blew my mind since the buttons appear to have LED displays underneath each button which activate and change based on the game you are playing and what options/action you are trying to view or do in the game.

I know what some people would say, that the device’s display is too small for serious or hardcore gaming and that nothing beats gaming on a personal desktop at the comfort of your own home.

Again, the idea of this device is that it allows you to be on top of your game ON-THE-GO. Since you are able to play your serious RPGs, racing games and whatnot on the PSP (or eventually the PSP2 and Xperia Play), or on the DS (or eventually on the 3DS), why not playing Starcraft2 on the fly, right?

That’s what is amazing about this device and the fact that the buttons adjust to your needs for each game is just amazing and is such a characteristic of Razer.

I honestly cannot wait to see this come out as an actual device and with the market booming with so many mobile devices with increasingly powerful processing power, better LED displays for mobile devices and video acceleration entering the mobile market, this is not a far cry from moving from concept to reality. I would probably be even one of the first to line up for this device.

So would you actually want to get one when it does come out? I heard there were actual working units on display during the CES event. Would have been interesting to take it for a spin.
